I've just heard about this organ which may well be of interest to someone wanting a real pipe organ for home practice:

Organ Builders / Grant, Degens & Rippin (Bradbeer)
« on: February 24, 2015, 01:26:29 PM »
Does anyone know whether any of the records of this company have survived?  I'd like to see if they have any records of work done on my house organ.  I'd also like to find a genuine nameplate  to go on the console.

Organs on eBay or for urgent sale / House organ
« on: March 04, 2014, 10:38:59 AM »
I'm probably going to have to move house soon into a smaller modern house.  Sadly, there probably won't be room for my wonderful and cherished house organ, so I'm reluctantly advertising it for sale.

It's based on a 1920's Aeolian - 5-ranks, 2-manual & pedal.  Console if a standard size and the pipework is around 7' wide, 4 deep and 7' high.

I'm in West Somerset.  Please contact me for more information.

Organs in danger / Llandaff Cathedral Choir
« on: November 24, 2013, 01:45:03 PM »
Not an organ, but the choir and choral tradition of Llandaff cathedral are at risk as the Chapter propose to sack the Assistant Organist and Lay Clerks to save money.  This, just after the new organ has finally been completed.  I've met Sachin Gunga, the Assistant Organist and he's a thoroughly nice chap as well, of course, as being a superlative musician.  Llandaff are the only professional choir in Wales.  Please look at the attached link to the ISM petition and consider signing it.  Mush is at stake here - not least our own parish church choirs and organs.

Organs wanted / Wanted: Hill Clarion 4'
« on: October 14, 2013, 06:03:44 PM »
We have recently restored our 1898 Hill to its original specification and condition.  We have a spare slide on the Swell which originally held a 4' Clarion and are looking to replace it.  Our organ builder is trying to source a suitable rank, but it's maybe worth asking on here as well.  William Hill 4' Clarion of around 1900, without a harmonic top half.  Does anyone now of anything suitable for sale please?

Organs wanted / Zimbelstern
« on: April 01, 2013, 09:13:18 PM »
Not a whole organ: I'm toying with the idea of putting a Zimberstern in the house organ.  Does anyone know of one for sale cheap? (Real, not digital please).

Another on Ebay:

Osmond's built a lot of similar organs.  They are generally very useful and well built.

Organs on eBay or for urgent sale / 300 for a 2-manual Hill
« on: February 18, 2013, 02:33:40 PM »

Just appeared on Ebay - sounds like they plan to replace a wonderful Hill with a toaster and have already valued the pipes as scrap metal  :'(

Hope someone can save it.

I've just had this email forwarded to me and am copying it in full.

Subject: pipe organ for sale
Bridgwater College has a pipe organ for sale. It is a Rushworth & Dreaper extension instrument with 2 manuals and 30 note pedal-board. There are 5/6 stops on each manual, derived from 2 ranks of good quality spotted metal pipework, apart from the largest basses, which are stopped zinc. The "case" is two opposing large triangles of pipework. The largest pedal pipes are in a separate, taller case at the back. The pipes are behind plexiglass swell shutters which currently do not function!
The organ has been assessed by Andrew Fearn, of T.W. Fearn, as broadly very effective. That said, it needs a complete overhaul, and were it to be purchased and moved, the opportunity should be taken to rebuild it and to renew action mechanism where necessary. The cost of this work he estimates as 5,000 - 7,000. As for the price of the organ, the college has been advised that it will not fetch more than a few hundred. For under 8,000, therefore, a two-manual and pedal pipe organ could be available. The large pedal pipes in their separate box could be detached and placed away from the rest of the instrument, since they currently make it taller than it need be. It would then, I think, fit under a ceiling height of about 10 feet.
I am circulating you all, since it is possible, in your peregrinations among local churches, that you may hear of a church looking to replace a decrepit pipe organ, or even looking to replace a digital instrument. A bequest may have been left by a local worthy towards music in the parish. Alternatively, you may know of an individual living in a palatial home, which could accommodate such an organ. You may even be such a person yourself! If you have any thoughts about this, or would like to try it yourself, get in touch, and I'll try to arrange a visit.
Best wishes,
