These articles refer to an Allen (non-pipe organ) recently installed in a Catholic Cathedral, for which the inaugural concert has been given...

The Allen isn't replacing a pipe organ nor is it the first installation, but is IN ADDITION TO a Schlickler 3 manual Tracker :o :o :o

I guess this means that compositions requiring two organs can now be performed... or... the organist can "choose their weapon" ;) ;D

QuoteThe Bryn Athyn Cathedral, dedicated in 1919, is a highly acclaimed Gothic and Romanesque style complex known for its stained glass windows. The decorative aspects of the cathedral are governed by distinct symbolism based on the teachings of the New Church, an international Christian faith founded on the teachings of the Bible as illuminated by Emanuel Swedenborg, an 18th Century theologian, scientist and philosopher. In addition to the new Allen organ, the cathedral houses a three manual Schlicker pipe organ that was installed in 1974.

Quote"The new Allen organ is a wonderful addition to our musical program," said Terry Schnarr, head organist at the Cathedral since 2000. "The new organ allows for a great deal of variety and accompaniments to choose from in order to support vocal and instrumental soloists and groups. Now an organist can choose from a huge variety of strings as well as a complete selection of brass instruments."

QuoteThe new Allen Quantum Q410 digital organ has four keyboards and 79 stops on seven different organ suites (styles of organs that include French, English Cathedral, and American). All of the sound samples were taken from the highest quality pipe organs. The installation includes 48 custom speakers that create a comprehensive sound system. The new organ provides increased flexibility and less maintenance since it isn't tuned like a pipe organ.

...Thoghts ??? ??? ???

The objective is to reach human immortality—that is, to create things which are necessary to mankind, necessary to the purpose of the existence of mankind, and which have become the fruit that drives the creation of a higher state of mankind than ever existed before."

Hi

There are a number of usually larger churches that have more than one organ - and sometimes more than one pipe organ!  Chelmsford Cathedral springs to mind, as does the main Anglican church in Warwick.  In France, this is even more common, with a main West End organ, and a smaller "Orgue du Choer" in the chancel - a layout copied by Westminster (RC) Cathedral in London.

Every Blessing

I can think of a few more too.  This is one way around the needs of a good recital/congregational instrument and a suitable choir accompaniment instrument.
