Hi!

Brilliant! Great! Thanks for posting this . . . but it is really brilliant when people can put some sort of summary into a post such as this with a news link with a bit of a summary. This post is about the restoration of the Boardwalk Hall Kimball pipe organ and the first paragraph is the very reason why this article is worth reading:
Pipe organs tend to have a boring reputation. A massive, loud instrument with wind and pipes. A churchgoer pressing the keys with thin, wrinkled fingers. For many people, yawn.Carl Loeser, curator of the pipe organs in Boardwalk Hall, recognizes that perception.
"The traditional organ community tends to be interested in a somewhat narrow period of time and style," he said. "We're hoping to attract a wider audience."

So in due course please can someone post news about this organ or Carl Loeser's projects under the inspirational organs category?

Best wishes

As young members representative for both the Midmer Losh organ and the Kimball, I will, from now on, keep you guys upto date with all the info on these organs!
The kimball should be playing very soon, and a re-dedication concert is planned for in 2011. Hopefully a cd too, or a dvd, similar to the ones priory have done of liverpool cathedral, st pauls and the like.
The kimball is unique, and one of the most beautiful concert organs ive heard, escpecially those strings which kimball are famed for!

:o Got "beat to the punch" but glad to see some news about the Ballroom Kimball...  Last word from the ACCHOS puts their schedule about a year behind, but, it sounds like progress is being made 8)

With the Kimball playable again it will be possible for concerts to be held in the Ballroom and thus provide a revenue stream for restoration of the "big organ in the next room"...

I was particularly intrigued by Carl's desire to see Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the Moon" rendered
by the Organ... "A one-hour program"...  although a credible performance would require at least a zimbelstern and either carillon or glockenspiel ;)

Yes things are abit behind, but, its having the funding, and arranging the schedule around the events within the complex. The swell organ ( 4,456 pipes) of the midmer losh from the left stage chamber of the main hall has been removed and is currently being restored. The new magnets for the right stage chamber (in which there is 9,759 pipes) are also being made (custom made magnets too!).
