QuoteAttached to this instrument is a small brass plaque inscribed with these words: "Dedicated to the Glory of God and to the Memory of The Fallen in Canada's Wars and Departed Members of St. Peter's." The date that this was inscribed was Feb.1, 1973.

QuoteAt 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 11, Moggach, St. Peter's organist for nearly three decades, will provide the music for a recital in honour of the veterans of Canada's military forces that covers many wars and peacekeeping assignments. The recital is free to the public with a poppy fund box for donations.

So... Any Remembrance Day concerts in the UK???  Any organs similarly dedicated?

Hi

Many UK organs were built or rebuilt as war memorials - both following the first & second "world" wars.  The problem with any such memorial though is what to do when the organ needs further work - is it retained as a memorial, or replaced?

At least we don't have that problem - the war memorial (WW1) here is a stained glass triptych - stained glass is VERY unusual in UK Baptist churches.  It depicts st. George & St Alban on the outer panels, with King David in the middle.  It was removed before the old church building was demolished and is now installed at the front of the current sanctuary.  There's a possibility that it's by a very famous maker - we had an inquiry last year, but no further info yet.  The Rose Window (part of the original set) is in store.

Most UK war memorials inside churches though take the form of plaques.

Now to return to organs!

Every Blessing
