The objective is to reach human immortality—that is, to create things which are necessary to mankind, necessary to the purpose of the existence of mankind, and which have become the fruit that drives the creation of a higher state of mankind than ever existed before."

QuoteLYME REGIS: Young musicians Pipe Up

YOUNG musicians recently enjoyed a session of organ music at St Michael's Parish Church in Lyme Regis, as part of a "Pipes and Pizza" event.

The youngsters listened and looked inside the church's impressive new Skrabl organ while organists Richaird Godfrey and Robert Fielding played. Church organist Alex Davies and former Westminster Abbey organist David Bruce-Payne then spoke about why they both started playing the instrument from a young age.

The group were able to have a go themselves and played piano pieces on the organ. The session finished with everyone enjoying pizza together.

The event was part of the Dorset and Wiltshire-wide "Pipe Up" scheme, run locally at St Michael's by Lyme Regis Organ School, and funded by the Tindall Trust.

Pipe Up director Robert Fielding said: "The young musicians who attended the morning very bravely stepped up to play their piano pieces on the organ. We had 'The Jumping Frog' and Lloyd Webber's 'Phantom'.

"This was a new experience and hopefully will result in regular lessons being taken by those who took part. We will be repeating this event in the Diocese, especially the pizza bit!
