QuoteThe largest Wurlitzer pipe organ ever installed in a European cinema will find a new home in the art-deco building in Commercial Road, itself a cinema until 1960 showing films from "King Kong" to "The Siege of Sidney Street".

The four keyboard organ, which uses 1,500 pipes which will also be restored on either side of the Troxy stage, began life at the former Trocadeo cinema at the Elephant & Castle.

But its saviours, the Cinema Organ Society, still need funds for the restoration, which will cost £240,000 to complete and are holding an open day at the Troxy on April 9 to show off the organ console and give guided tours of the theatre.

The media were being accurate, as the Cinema Organ Society were also saying it to be the largest organ in europe. It shares the title with the Empire Leicester Square Wurlitzer, which is now in Len Rawles home.
The cinema organ also say it to be the finest...........the Wurlitzer company had different ideas on what was there finest. I certainly do too, it was never any good in the theatre.........so! But good luck to them!
Personally instead of spending so much money on one organ, that only a MINORITY will get to hear, they could have spent there money on a nice purpose built venue, like the N.E.T.O.A has done with a converted church, that way, its accessable all the time, and they can hold as many concerts as they like, and dont have to answer to anyone!
