Hi!

If anyone sees Ahlborn units for sale on ebay.de, ebay.nl, ebay.it, ebay.fr etc it would be so helpful if they could put a link here as the ebay sites have concrete walls between them at times . . .

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180492832862 is a 202 unit. Good 16ft and 32ft reeds on pedal, a good 8ft Diapason, a Quintadena 8 which introduces the 12th for a chorus, a useful Tierce and Larigot, useful Bourdon, an excellent Corno di Bassetto which through the right speaker sounds as a very effective Cromorne, mixture, Chimes - effective and fun if judiciously used

a useful Trompette (possibly a bit thin) and Tuba Mirabilis, both of which need the right speakers and, particularly interestingly a Septieme which gives good bite to things . . .

This was the specific unit that I chose first for the fourth manual of my organ enlargement, specifically for the quality of the Diapason, but used now particularly for the Cromorne and Tierce.

These units were intended also to extend pipe organs and have facilities for a temperature compensation module to be installed to keep it in tune.

WOW! It made rather a lot. Over 840 Eu. But there haven't been any around for sale in some time and an auction just needs two people to drive up the price . . . !

Best wishes

Hi,
I just found a company that offer a small module that can be used to track the Tuning of the Ahlborn expander modules to the surrounding temperature. ( which I guess would be useful if you are mixing Real pipes and electronics, or even might be able to be modified if you want to be able to change the tuning of the expander module remotely ! )

from a recent visit to Hammerwood Park I seem to remember that the Ahlborn has a separate din socket for the connections needed.
on another subject I wonder if the user manual of the Ahlborn has any of the midi codes listed to control the other functions such as ( for example ) stop  changes, general presets and Temperament change ?
from looking at the following page ( which does give details of other systems as well ) this does seem to be possible to control the stop changes using midi commands if you know the codes.

of course trying to do this while you are still playing the module is probably asking for trouble....

P.s. as these units seem not to be made anymore I guess their  price secondhand may be going up !
