It appears that there are two people searching for Organ Matters "libel" and "fabrications" related matters on a very regular basis and statistics indicate what subject area the particular political hot potato might be.

Particular thanks are due to our Moderation Team for assisting greatly in keeping their eyes open for any random posts which might be the cause of someone having cause to being upset. In signing up to the Forum, in common with the majority of forums, writers are made aware that they are solely responsible for what they write, but of course the Moderation Team try to guide anyone they can perceive to be overstepping bounds and in particular exceeding the realm of "fair comment".

Should anyone feel aggrieved by anything that appears on the site, please do join as a member and make yourselves known to the Moderators or Forum Admin. This forum and site is about expressing ENTHUSIASM for the King of Instruments and how the Organ as an instrument is best preserved, repaired, presented and promoted and is not about upsetting anyone or spreading information that is in anyway false or beyond the bounds of civilised discussion.

It's great to see in the stats that All Saints Carshalton is receiving wider attention - it's a great instrument.

Best wishes

The searches you mention might actually be related to an instrument for which little or no attention has been directed by members of this forum :o :o :o :o :o

  Until now  ;) ;) ;)

The history of this instrument and the related controversies surrounding it make for a fascinating if not frustrating read  :o    Another candidate for an "Organ in Danger" ??? ??? ???

Hi

The Ally Pally organ scheme seems to have been quiet for a while - and perhaps that's a good thing given the various fallings out of groups and supporters that there's been in recent times.

It's a pity that the organ hasn't been restored fully - maybe one day?

Every Blessing

Hi!

The ClustrMaps service at the bottom of pages is rather interesting - one can see yellow dots scattered around the map as the site reaches people across the world and the ClustrMaps page gives the following for this morning:
22 June @ 12:29 : Enfield, GB
22 June @ 12:28 : Reading, GB
22 June @ 12:27 : Marseille, FR
22 June @ 12:17 : Salisbury, GB
22 June @ 12:03 : London, GB
22 June @ 11:52 : Beaminster, GB
22 June @ 11:05 : Eschborn, DE
22 June @ 11:02 : Binangonan, PH
22 June @ 10:55 : Bradford, GB
22 June @ 10:43 : Ventabren, FR
22 June @ 10:32 : London, GB
22 June @ 10:32 : Bristol, GB

It's quite an interesting picture of how we can spread enthusiasm for the King of Instruments around the world.

Best wishes

For music-lovers,  the electronic organ is at best a CD, while a real pipe organ is a live Philharmonic concert. It can be a good representation of a great sound, but a pipe organ  IS  the great sound.

:)  I'm sure that Forum Admin was not really spying on you looking at Stats and noticing Washington DC cropping up - but clicking on that world image at the bottom of the page does demonstrate how far the influence of a forum such as this can reach . . . and I'd hope that your signature inspires many with the seeds of desire for the real thing . . . !

However, I should add that given the right electronic signals the right speakers can "be" the real thing to the ears rather than merely a CD. But those speakers have to be chosen and designed with the care not of a hifi salesman or PA supplier, but someone who knows what the speaker has to do to "be" a pipe . . . I'm not aware of any electronic manufacturers who do that . . .

Best wishes

Sorry-- Wrong Washington!  Olympia is the "seat of government" for the STATE of Washington ;D

I was there assisting some blind friends with their amateur radio projects which required materials,
tools, and expertise gained from much work done by me in related professional capacities...

And one of these was "instrumental" in the restoration of, and return to, the Washington School for the Blind, of its  Estey pipe organ...

As to the signature... It is actually a quote (edited by me to make it more generally applicable)
clipped out of a news article I posted to this forum...  IIRC another pipe instrument replacing an electronic article ;) and, yes, that is the general idea ;)

Having constructed a functioning loudspeaker (currently disassembled for want of a proper voice coil form-- I have the wire and a most marvelous magnet assembly assembled from salvaged speaker parts... ) literally "out of junk"... I mean, JUNK!  (much of the frame consists of an automotive wheel, the rubber surround cut from a wheelbarrow innertube, the cone, an aluminum traffic light reflector, the "spider" from sunglass hinges and bits of brass curiously soldered together)  that actually "worked"...

one becomes painfully aware  of the mechanical and physical requirements to produce a device which can suitably translate the electrical waveform generated by a microphone back into the sound waveform which excited the microphone in the first place...

To those unfamiliar with website statistics, a few words of clarification might be of interest in two areas - the subject which people are searching for, and their locations.

Re subject matter, a search engine such as Google looks at the entire Internet each time you type something into the search box.  So if you typed 'pipe organ', a huge number of hits will be found.  Among zillions of other websites, this search string will also find something (probably lots) on this 'organmatters' forum and return it to Google.  At the same time, the forum's stats program (I don't know which one is used, but 'Webalizer' is a common one) will also wake up and note that somebody has been searching for 'pipe organ' on the forum's server, and it will then log the date and time.  However, that is all it does mean.  It doesn't mean that somebody is purely searching the 'organmatters' forum alone for 'pipe organ'  That would only be the case if somebody typed 'pipe organ' into the search box on the home page of the forum itself, which is a different matter.  Forum Admin will doubtless be able to provide stats on this if he wished.

Re the location of the person doing the searching, this is done (approximately, if at all) by examining the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the searcher's computer.  The vast majority of the time, this will only deliver the country where the searcher resides, and maybe a town near-ish to where the searcher lives. The reason why IP addresses are so vague is too complex to explain here, but one reason is that your Internet Service Provider (ISP), e.g. Virgin, does not assign 'static' or 'sticky' ISP addresses to your computer or router.  Instead, ISP's constantly change your IP address, though this is largely invisible to you, sitting at your computer.  Sometimes this might happen if your router or modem drops out for whatever reason and has to re-sync itself.  If this happens it is highly likely a different IP address will be allocated automatically.

Another reason why IP addresses provide such low-grade geographical info is that an increasing number of Internet users are now opting for proxy servers to 'insulate' them from the Internet itself.  They do this for security reasons among others.  A virus, etc, has more difficulty getting into your PC if a proxy server is in the way. In these cases a large number of users who have signed up to the server will have the same IP address as seen by web stats programs such as those used by this forum, even though their geographical locations can be wildly different.

Please don't think this is in any way intended to downplay or denigrate what Forum Admin is providing us with here.  I just thought it might be of interest to reveal a bit of what goes on behind the scenes.

Hi!

Yes - Thanks for that explanation.

I thought it was of interest for members to see actually what people are arriving at the site to find, having found mention of the various subject matters on Google. It's hoped that where we can see people finding subjects on this forum, we can add information as necessary to make what people find here more helpful and useful. . .

Best wishes
