Title: 8vi octave marking
Post by: ArtOfSoundMusic on October 20, 2012, 02:31:09 PM
Hello,

I am transcribing a 2 staff organ (no dedicated pedal staff) and it has some normal 8va sections marked.  In other sections, I see "8vi" for a stretch of notes marked for pedal.  Does 8vi mean

1) Play the notes in the left hand AND with the pedal?
2) If you have pedals, play the notes there and not with the left hand?
3) Something else?

Thanks,

Ed

This usually means play the pedals in octaves (ottavi is plural)
