I would like to wish all members a very Happy Christmas and New Year

Sadly they have started the demolition of this building, as far as I am aware the large Compton extension organ was not removed which is a pity.

Harrison and Harrison have announced on their website that they will be building a new organ for Canterbury starting in 2017.

Is any of this giant digital?
Did anyone watch this? One part came from a church with a large organ divided on either side of the Chancel, does anyone know where this was?

I came across a name I did not know for an organ stop, Coroboe, is it a cross between Cornopean and Oboe?

I have just spent a week on this lovely island, but found it impossible to look in many of the Churches or Chapels which are all firmly locked!!! Does anyone have any suggestions as we are there again in November?

Best wishes,

This should be quite interesting and I have added the topic at the request of a member!!

Please do not just restrict yourself to one instrument if you have several, I will post some of mine later.

Best wishes,

http://www.flentrop...._suss_coll.html  Please look at the stop list of the proposed new organ, I am a little confused as the Twelfth on the Great is at 3ft yet the Nazard on the Swell is 2.2/3 which is correct as I have always assumed they were 2.2/3.
Miscellaneous & Suggestions / Worst Organ played
June 29, 2015, 02:20:29 PM

Just for a little fun would members like to tell about the worst organ they have ever played. Mine is St Philips Smethwick which is a 2 manual Bevington reduced to Swell only due to water damage, there are no pedal stops, but you can couple the Swell to Pedat.

I was told yesterday that this church had closed and that the fate of the organ is undecided, it was originally in an Oxford College Chapel and is a 3 manual built by Rushworth and Dreaper.
Miscellaneous & Suggestions / Information please!!!

Several years ago I played an organ at "The Marble" Church which is not far away from Rhyl, I cannot find a listing on NPOR does anyone have the specification of this? I can recall it was a 2 manual on a West Gallery with a detached console in the Nave, I think the builder was Cowin of Liverpool.

Best wishes

Can anyone help me please? I am trying to locate the order books of this firm in an attempt to find the specification of the extension organ they built for Bushbury Crematorium in Wolverhampton during the 1960's, from memory it was based on 3 ranks, the organ has long gone being replaced by a "toaster" which in turn has given way to the computerised music system widely used these days.

Harris Organs were not the best, but I would like to add this instrument to the NPOR.

Best wishes

The Churches final service is on October 19th, I don't know what's happening about the organ a 3 manual Compton extension instrument which has been allowed to decline into a deplorable condition.

This 3 manual Nicholson organ is now unplayable, there are no plans to restore it due to lack of funds. The stairs to the console are extremely dangerous, the Swell was electrified at some point but the pipework is typical of Nicholsons work and worth preserving. Rev Tony Newnham is one of the former organists of the church.

I have read that the choir organ at Canterbury is to be rebuilt and returned to being a 4 manual, the post mentioned that Harrisons were going to carry out the work, but there is no mention of this on their website, Does any member have any more information about this scheme?

Best wishes

Miscellaneous & Suggestions / The Pope
February 11, 2013, 12:04:18 PM
I have just read on Yahoo that the Pope has resigned, first one to do this for 600 years, I always thought they held the position until death but obviously this is not the case.

Miscellaneous & Suggestions / Trevor Tipple
January 05, 2013, 09:36:03 AM

Congratulations to Trevor Tipple for being awarded the MBE in the New Years Honours. Trevor is a well respected organ builder in Worcester, apart from this he is organist of St Martins church, a position he has held for many years. Many students at the RNIB have been taught the organ by him.;

This is really good news for the organ and church music world.

Best wishes

Miscellaneous & Suggestions / Organist Murdered
December 28, 2012, 07:19:50 PM
It is with deep regret I have heard on the news that the organist of St Saviours Sheffield was murdered on his way to play for the evening worship at his church. Please pray for his soul and that he will receive peace and also for his wife and family at this time. I hope the people who did this will be caught and brought to justice as soon as possible.
