I came across a name I did not know for an organ stop, Coroboe, is it a cross between Cornopean and Oboe?

Best wishes,

Sorry I cannot help you there, but after a conversation I had a few weeks ago I was told only parts of it had been sold.

I thought the organ had been rewired about 14 years ago. Where was the original console situated before it was made mobile?

This sounds interesting, Conachers were always built really well, there is one in St James Wednesbury, but the church has recently been made redundant. I wonder if the Choir organ will be added when the organ is restored.

I have never heard of the bottom octave of the pedal 16 being derived from American organ reeds are there any other examples of this?

One big reason is the cheapness of digital organs, but people do not realise the life expectancy of these.

What has happened to Carlo's Allen/ I had thought it might have ended up in Pershore Abbey to replace the Bradford there.

Electronic Organs / Re: New practice organ on its way!

I must say I played a Viscount Cadet yesterday and was greatly impressed by the sounds it produced, they certainly have improved over the years. The one thing that confused me was how to set up a new memory channel for the pistons, perhaps Tony can enlighten me!!

Miscellaneous & Suggestions / Anglesey

I have just spent a week on this lovely island, but found it impossible to look in many of the Churches or Chapels which are all firmly locked!!! Does anyone have any suggestions as we are there again in November?

Best wishes,

St Mary Shrewsbury, a fine 4 manual Binns, sounds fantastic at the console but does not sound well in the church as all the pipework is buried in a high chamber. The quieter sounds are so lovely but barely audible "downstairs" for example Choir Dolce and Unda Maris are scintillating. The late Sam Baker used to couple the Solo 16 reed and Orchestral Oboe to the Swell to augment the reed tone.

The church is now redundant, the organ is still used for recitals and still has the Binns adjustable piston drawstops, but this is best well alone!!!

One of my favourite organs is All Saints Wellington, it is a 3 manual Bevington rebuilt by Walkers in the 1960's, they retained the mechanical action to the manuals and the TP to the Pedal Organ. The choruses are clear and well balanced, and I am pleased Walkers did not alter the specification, they did however rename the Cone Gamba as Open Diapason 2. The church is very Evangelical, as a result the organ is not heard as often as it should be.

Hi,

This should be quite interesting and I have added the topic at the request of a member!!

Please do not just restrict yourself to one instrument if you have several, I will post some of mine later.

Best wishes,
Barrie
