Hi!
This evening I had an unfortunate accident with the original Makin which is at the core of the Hammerwood instrument from Londonderry Cathedral. I was about to voice some pedal notes, plugged in the voicing cable, slipped and pulled the cable and ever since the Swell and Pedal departments have departed. Stops, pedals and manuals continue to provide midi output.
Jeremy Filsell is due to be coming first thing on Sunday morning to start preparing for the 4pm concert.
Can anyone with Hauptwerk save the day or does anyone have the phone number of David Fetterman or anyone else at Makins?
In view of the recent demonstration of Hauptwerk at Bristol, it might be possible to interface Hauptwerk or seamlessly as a stopgap to provide for the recital.
We need a dry sampleset providing

If anyone can help it will give a great deal of happiness to audience, performer and avoid a very red face on my behalf. If not, however, there is still a very significant part of the instrument very much in action but it will require great organistic gymnastics on Jeremy's behalf to overcome. It would also be a great feather in the cap for Hauptwerk.

Such are the wonders of our internet age! THANKS to Ed in Roscoe Illinois for spreading the word on the Hauptwerk Forum - THANKS to Barry on this list who rang me up this morning with a magic telephone number and THANKS to David Fetterman at Makin who understood exactly what the problem was over the phone, told me what to do, and the Makin heart of the Hammerwood beast is now HAPPY! Concert is going ahead and Jeremy will only have his own special brand of musical gymnastics to cope with, without having to think of a lot of registration substitution!

For awhile there I was afraid the cable removal ESD'ed something "expensive" and moreover "unobtanium in the required timeframe"... Sounds like something "lost its mind" and needed
a swift "crack across the knuckles with a ruler" to set it right...
Such is life with CPU-based electronics ;)
I suppose it was quite a relief to find out nothing was permanently damaged and that all was well 8)
And the Show can go on :D

I guess you were lucky that you didn't let out the magic smoke that must be inside most ic's as when the smoke escapes the ic's don't work anymore !

Hi!
It's a great credit to Makin that the instrument survived the accident and also to their stalwart engineer who was happy to speak with me out of hours on a Saturday morning, particularly thanks to the brilliant member of this forum who gave me his number.
THANKS particularly also to members of the Hauptwerk community who came up with offers of help. I owe all of you a ton of thanks and returned favours - and so if I can do anyone favours in return I'll be very happy to help out.
The result? YES - worthwhile - SCORED! Unfortunately we only had one member of the audience under 18 but after the recital I heard him go up to Jeremey - "Thanks so much for the recital - it was great - I normally go to sleep during recitals but your's was brilliant".
So this one young person's experience of the organ and, with luck, his continued enthusiasm has benefitted from everyone's support in having made this concert possible. THANKS!
Audience - about 50, so we did a little better than Hove.

Especial THANKS to all who kindly offered support and to BD who gave me the magic man's phone number. The result of the concert is that we had people new to the organ as an instrument begging to come back for more and I'm giving a platform to a young 17 year old organist on 18th December who will be playing a full programme including the Reger Passacaglia.
