Hi Eric!

You know, I'm not sure that I ought not to ask Forum Admin to delete that post - apart from anything else on account of the colour of the stop tabs making me queasy . . .:-\

well I think it looks like the Colour scheme was designed during the 1960's ! and the layout during the 1970's.
I think that voicing any instrument ( whether Pipe or Electronic ) may not be an easy thing to do if it is going to be in different venues ( or even played in one location ). are they going to use a computer program to allow for an auto setup ? or have preset settings ?
from the article "  It turns the computer into a musical instrument"  I always thought it was the player that did this !

Hi,
please to see a picture of the Compton console !
I just looked at the npor to see if there was any info listed ( as a beginner I'm curious about what names all the stops are ! ) but there doesn't seem to be anything mentioned about the Bilston town hall. ( npor = national pipe organ register ).
would be great if anyone had the time to email the npor with the updated details.

Hi!
. However, later Hammonds with "Percussion" had a quint on percussion which might have been intended as a first step towards simulation.

Best wishes

David P

Hi,
well the percussion feature on the later Hammonds was not the quint but was I think the second or Third Harmonic of  the 8ft tone. this sort of relates to the fact that some organ pipes have a chiff that is partly Second or Third Harmonic.
another point is that as far as I know the later Vibrato scanner doesn't affect the percussion sound.
( from what I can remember some Flute pipes tend to Chiff near the third harmonic and some Diapason pipes chiff near the second Harmonic ).
but it does say something good about the build quality of the Hammonds and Comptons that there are some still working today !

Hi,
I think that the Hammonds don't try to reproduce the attack transient of a pipe organ correctly. they mostly just use contacts to switch the signals from the tone wheel generators.
as far as I know some of the electrostatic Comptons did use a circuit on each key to provide a slow attack which meant in some ways they sounded closer to a pipe organ.
at one Point Hammond did produce an instrument that was meant to simulate a pipe organ a bit closer, I think it was called a G100.
I've never heard one but it did have more tone wheels to produce more upper harmonics.
as has been discussed elsewhere I think the ear is quite sensitive to the changes in the attack transient.

Hi!
If anyone is interested in theatre organs, Percy Vickery's analogue instrument will also be available.

Best wishes

David P

Hi,
I hope to be able to get along and there should be something for everyone  !
I think it was mentioned that Percy Vickery's Instrument has double touch on one of the manuals and some of the thumb pistons ? or am I mixing up things.

Hi,
I was looking for some thing not related to portable Organs and I found the following web site.
http://www.hey-orgelbau.de/en/organbuilding_projects/mobileorgan.htm

I notice that the mixture stop, a Sesquialter  11  , uses a 2ft and 2 /2/3 ft combination of pipes.
I just wondered if that was unusual ?

Hi,
I think that with the Hammonds, some of the Harmonics are not quite the correct frequencies, so this makes the organ sound different in different keys. ( and of course the Hammonds are not quite tuned to equal Temperament ! ).
I just wondered what temperament the Pipe Organ you mention at East Grinstead is tuned to ?

ok well I know it isn't a new Organ but at least it is some good news.

It doesn't hurt that specific construction information exists in book form 8)    I will have to dig around and find out if there are English language translations available.

I would be interested to know this as well, as I didn't pay attention to the Lessons in French when I was at school !   I have both the Audsley Books and the diagrams are very good.
But are they worth the money ?

above  is a good point....
after all if there are not enough people going to concerts then there won't be many concerts being put on. But how do you get people who would not normally go to concerts to be interested in them ? I think youtube does get to a wide audience.
I wonder has anyone done a video basic introduction to the Pipe organ with ( simple ) examples of the different sounds available ( for example the difference between flutes and reeds ) and what all the stops and couplers do ?

Electronic Organs / Re: sample formats
May 12, 2010, 12:20:00 PM
Hi,
well as far as I know the format for Hauptwerk has changed between the versions.
but the later versions can read the earlier files. the later versions are as far as I know encrypted, but I think that version 1 files are  wav files ( one for each pipe ! ).
there are additional files / graphic images  needed to define the console etc.
I think that starting with a small / chamber organ to sample is a good idea as it might work out to be a lot of work.
