Hi,
just saw the following Theatre Organ Chimes on ebay

these seems to be different in that they have an magnetic pickup near to each bar so that the sound can be amplified.

Hi,
not to do with Organ sounds but there was an interesting radio program on BBC radio 4 today.
" Reverend Richard Coles explores the science of sacred sounds.  "

Hi,
although I expect you already know this, there have been some Organ pieces on Radio 3 today as part of the Proms series.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio/bbc_radio_three/20110717

4 pm  Organist Stephen Farr

what I liked about this recording was that they bothered to talk about what stops were used and why, I found this interesting but I didn't understand it all.

Hi,
rather that continue a previous thread I thought I would start a new one.
A couple of days ago I was able to look at a recently built Pipe organ and thought I would post the specification here. I wasn't able to play the Organ so I can't comment on temperament or what the instrument sounded like. I think this is a small / medium size Organ [ but I guess everything is relative ]

9 Gedackt  8ft
10 Spitz flute 4ft
11 Principal  2ft

13 Trumpet 8ft

drawstops
stops 9 – 13  on rhs of console drawstops

pedals    30 note

swell pedal  [ affects stops 9 to 13 ?  ]

Hi,
just saw this posted on the Harpsichord list.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9_OnCDk3-4&feature=player_embedded#at=35

it isn't that often that you see a Claviorganum on you tube.
[ in case anyone is wondering a Claviorganum is a small pipe organ and harpsichord which are coupled together ]

Hi,
the next AES meeting is on Tuesday the 12th July.
Who decided that RT >1.5 sec is best for good choral tone?
copy of the details
"William McVicker, organ curator at the Royal Festival Hall and an organ consultant, will provide an overview of the relationship between the acoustician and the architect, with special reference to the Royal Festival Hall.

The question of room acoustics and music will be explored, along with the ways in which our appreciation and understanding of live music has changed, as have the views of architects and acousticians."

just to clarify,
you don't need to be a member to attend the lectures and they do provide tea, coffee and biscuits before the event.

" London lectures are held at The Royal Academy of Engineering, 3 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5DG, just off Pall Mall. Meetings start at 7.00pm with refreshments from 6.30pm."

Hi,
sorry for a question that may seem to have a straightforward reply.
I'm working on the insides of a really old analogue  Johannus Organ [ it is a long story ].
anyway it seems to have had a set of general pistons marked
PP P MF F FF T   , TA and HR
the first set of six pistons I can work out, but I'm wondering if the Ta piston might be a "reeds silent" piston ?  the Hr   switch seems to switch between the Normal stops and the preset combinations. does that seem reasonable ?

Hi,
I just saw these courses as an advert on ebay !
sorry if they have been posted here before.

I wish that there had been courses like this when I was at school......
making the Organ accessible to young people can't be a bad thing.
