Hi,
I saw this on a music list and just thought someone might be interested.

Bach possibly wrote his Trio Sonatas for pedal-harpsichord, and his Passacaglia was also arguably for pedal-harpsichord.

Under the guidance of the brilliant young Slovenian keyboardist Dalibor Miklavcic, become a Baroque German organist for the afternoon, discovering the sensations and sounds of working on this now rare and fascinating instrument.

Restricted to 6 active participants students of at least grade 7 keyboard standard, but observers of any standard will also find this class very interesting.

Fee for players: £60.00, for booking form see http://rco.org.uk/pdfs/Autumn11applicationform%28updated%29.pdf

also Reminder,
The next day Saturday 5 November, also at St Giles Cripplegate.

Hi,
the Audio engineering society lecture on the 11th of October is about Chameleon subwoofer arrays.
from the web site "Current work in the Audio Research Laboratory (ARL) at the University of Essex has engaged in the development of a flexible networked low-frequency response control system, termed a chameleon subwoofer array (CSA) due to its intrinsic capability of adapting to acoustical surroundings. CSA technology provides multiple degrees of freedom towards system correction, achieved either with multi-component subwoofers or standard single drive unit subwoofers calibrated automatically.2
meeting location, Please note: London lectures are now held at The Royal College of Pathologists, 2 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AF, just off Pall Mall (next door to the RAE). Meetings start at 7.00pm with refreshments from 6.30pm.

you don't need to be a member to come along to a meeting. there is no charge for entrance.

Hi,
surely for £ 8000 they should be able to get two harpsichords !
maybe of different dispositions ?
I do feel that the option of a Pipe Organ would have long term advantages to an electronic.

I fear that affluenza and lack of attention beyond the tickboxes of a curriculum together with an aversion to amateurism will conspire against such a solution. Everything has to be "professional", glossy and expensive nowadays :-( I pointed them to a Johannus 1200 which made around £1200ish on ebay, but saving them over £8000 possibly to spend on a harpsichord, it wasn't expensive enough . . . :-(

Electronic Organs / Re: The Rodgers Organ Company
August 23, 2011, 09:56:09 AM
Hi,
there is now a connection between the Rodgers Organ company and Roland, but I don't know the exact connection.
and I think one of the Rodgers Organs that was a similar specification to the one that Virgil Fox played is now in Japan !  I think it has been modernised from the old analogue electronics.

Electronic Organs / Re: Thames Ditton Makin organ
August 10, 2011, 05:57:12 PM
Hi,
I guess as other people have mentioned it depends if the instrument at Thames Ditton  is as large as the one at Lancaster ? I guess probably not. But that might have advantages for a house practice Organ ?
timescale, and also is the console going to be reused ? are two  points to consider.
Does anyone know if the Makin analogue system is Free phase [ as in one oscillator per note ] or Divider [ one oscillator for each note of the scale ] ?

regards Peter B

#140
Hi,
many thanks for the additional info. It is a shame that circuit diagrams are not available. as it uses analogue Oscillators this may explain the size of the electronics.......
at least Makin did reply to your questions.

regards Peter B

Hi!

I had a response from Makin today:
...............................................................................

Certainly an interesting beast on this scale. It really depends perhaps on whether the sound is worth it . . .

Best wishes
