QuoteYesterday the first edition of the Festival of Organs was held in Gozo, it was organized by the Gozo Culture Office within the Ministry for Gozo in collaboration with the Diocese of Gozo.

The Festival itself was initially launched last Friday in the Medieval Chapel of Santa Cecilia, with a 'Pipe Organs in Gozo' lecture which was given by organist Noel Gallo.

This festival continued with several concerts around Gozo, including one in the St. Augustine covent with the participation of organist Gino Mule 'Stagno and the Choir Chorus Urbanus under the direction of Dr. John Galea. Another concert was held at San Lawrenz Church with the participation of organists Noel Gallo, Robert Grech and John Aquilina.

In addition, Sunday Masses in various churches were animated by the music of the organ. Thse included the Cathedral, the National Sanctuary of Ta 'Pinu, the Basilica of Marija Bambina in Xaghra and the Basilica of St George in Victoria, organists Mons. Lawrence Sciberras, Ivan Attard, Noel Gallo and Dr. Joseph Camilleri together with Schola Cantorum Jubilate all participated.

Might this become an annual event ???

The objective is to reach human immortality—that is, to create things which are necessary to mankind, necessary to the purpose of the existence of mankind, and which have become the fruit that drives the creation of a higher state of mankind than ever existed before."

I've played a few organs in Gozo - they left a lot to be desired.

The largest church on the island, St John's Xewkija doesn't have a pipe organ. A great shame considering the acoustics of the building.

An organ I rescued from a local Catholic church looks like it could be heading to a convent chapel in/around Gozo in the near future.
