I think this little organ formerly in the RCO, See details of N17325, takes some beating. Does anyone know where it went to?

The little Willis at Clive Shropshire takes some beating as well.

Hi

Very good points David. Halesowen replaced a 3 manual Rushworth with the top of a range instrument, all the speakers are sited in what was the old Choir Vestry, wuth the exception of the 2 Solo Reeds the speakers of which are at the West End of the Church. It simply does not work. The bank of speakers at the East end in the old vestry is very large, but even so the sound is not good.

All Saints Sedgley has a large 3 manual, all the speakers are in the West gallery and angled to hit to roof before fianlly hitting the ears, this works!!

Best wishes

I would like to hear the comments of any pipeorgan builders about this. To my mind it would appear to be more economic to spend money on the existing organ.

Colin, Many thanks I know Bach goes to Town, I will try and get the music from the source you suggested. It seems more fun than the Bach.

Best wishes

Hi

I listened to part of this last night and heard Gordon Stewart playing an amusing piece I think it was called "Handel in the Strand". Does anyone know this music and where I can obtain a copy?

Hi

I agree with Tony, it is not worth saving, but some of the pipework will find a new home.
The scheme is very typical of Leonard Reeves, he rebuilt Tividale Parish Church, the church has long since been demolished. The Positive in this case was placed over the entry to the Lady Chapel, the Great Swell and Pedal being in the chancel, this disposition never worked.
Reeves consoles are not bad at all, I am surprised Prestatyn did not have it reused for their new digital organ.

Hi

I would try Hugh Banton as his knowledge of Makin analogues is great.

Hi

I have read with interest Tony and Colins replies to this topic.
I agree with both of them, organists should be far more flexible and be prepared to use modern music in conjunction with the more "Ancient!" hymns. This morning at my Easter morning service we used Songs of Fellowship as well as Hymns Old and New. The mix works and the age group withing the church is very varied. I did use the piano for one song, the other adapted to the organ.
We dispensed with Evensong many years ago as it was not supported and have an informal Mass once a month.
Organists must be flexible.

Happy Easter

Hi

I have just watched the 2 videos, "When I survey" reduced me to tears. Both videos impart a very strong message.

I too wish he would join this Forum.
Paul is through the Benchmark series enabling us to hear a wide variety of instruments spread through out the country. He plays each one with the greatest integrity demonstrating its full resources.
His knowledge of the organ is vast, my home town of Broseley had a fine 2 manual Walker moved from the chancel to a west gallery. I will not comment about the gentlemen who did this work, apart from saying they ruined it. Paul carried out remedial work on the organ bringing it back into a playable state and at little cost to himself.
He is a true gentleman and a very fine musician, I too wish he used Paypal!!!!

The whole thing is a minefield. I have had yet another telephone call today asking why the 2 Churches in my team will not be buying a new licence, they seem to be unable to grasp the fact that this is no longer needed. They appear to me, rightly or wrongly, just seem to be after money for the sake of it.

Hi
I find CCL very difficult, 2 of the churches within the team have congregations of 30 or less, they have stopped using any music reproduced by photocopying etc and stick to the new Hymns Old and New. CCL pester me on a regular basis regarding these churches almost demanding they pay the licence fee. I know the whole thing is a nightmare.
I had always thought, until you corrected my thinking, that music in worship was exempt.
The main church in my team only holds a CCL should it acquire a PRS licence as well, we do use a lot of cds at Funerals and Weddings?
