Wednesbury and Wednesfield are 2 different Towns, the organ in Wednesbury was removed years ago, the Binns still remains, although you are quite correct it is not on NPOR and the entries for that Town are very out of date.

Thank you for that and yes it is Battersea, has this organ now been restored? I think Tony said it is playing again.
There is a very neglected 3 manual J.J. Binns in Wednesfield Town Hall. I doubt if any work will be carried out on it due to lack of funds, at least the same authority keeps West Bromwich Town Hall tuned.

Miscellaneous & Suggestions / New Zealand Earthquake
February 22, 2011, 01:54:36 PM
I have been shocked to see the amount of devestation on the news this morning following the earthquake in Christchurch.
Can we pray for all the people who lost their lives, their families and the people of Christchurch and all affected areas.
I understand they are now bracing themselves for the after shocks.
Many buildings have been badly damaged, including the Cathedral, these can be rebuilt as can any organs that have been damaged during this terrible time.

Hi

I think they were Harrison stock jobs there are identical organs at Wem and Bishops Castle in Shropshire. Yes they are very versatile organs.

Fundraising for an Organ / Re: Grants
February 16, 2011, 02:11:09 PM
Hi

Thank you for your replies and help.

We tried the Lottery with no luck to help fund the roof when the lead was stolen, I will look at BIOS and thanks for suggesting the Pilgrims Trust who I had never heard of. I am obtaining a copy of the Charities Handbook.

We did have legacies but for some mysterious reason these were swallowed up by the powers that be at Worcester several years ago.

This could not have happened at a worse time as the church is struggling to have the roof repaired, the insurance company will not pay out for some reason best known to themselves. The building needs rewiring and the list goes on.

The organ would not have caused problems if the heating had not been turned up to the degree it was!!!! Too late now!

Best wishes

Fundraising for an Organ / Grants
February 16, 2011, 12:33:47 AM
Does any member know where grants are considered for the restoration of pipeorgans?
My church is basically broke thanks to a large quota, and the organ needs several thousands spending on it. We cannot ask the congregation as this is dwindling in numbers. Some guidance would be appreciated.

Good Luck with the move

This is a similar situation to St Edmunds Dudley, the whole organ has had to be replaced, Trevor Tipple is putting in a 2 manual Binns rescued from a church in Staffordshire.

I only hope the organ mentioned by David is saved.

Hi

I recall seing a specification of an organ designed by Carlo Curley for a stadium in France, the organ was never built!!!
I think it was mentioned in his book, but the scheme of the organ with numerous Chamades looked very suited to such an environment. (It would have blown the players off the pitch!!!!!)

Organ building and maintenance / Re: Urgent Help Please
February 07, 2011, 02:35:27 PM
Hi

The problem resolved itself after the heating was reduced and Pauls recital went ahead without any strange noises from the organ.
We discovered on Sunday that two pedal notes were off on the Open Wood and that there was a cypher on the pedal Fifteenth, I suspect this has been caused by the heat.

Thank you Jonathan, an online photo gallery would be excellent, Adrian Lucas did a very good one whilst the Tickell was being built in Worcester.
I think I read somewhere that you are using a Compton console for this organ, is it drawstop or stopkey?

Organ building and maintenance / Re: Urgent Help Please

Hi

Thank you for the post David.

We normally run the heating in the church at just below 15c all the time throughout the winter, but some one had decided to increase the temperature for the Funeral and forgot to decrease it afterward. Thie would account for the sticking slide on The Positif Stopped Diapason.

Michael Latham is trying to correct the runnings today, the opinion being that the Great action was releathered 12 months ago and this still maybe, fingers crossed ( I do apologise for that as Im not at all a believer in that practice!!) the reason.

Many thanks to David and everyone for their kind help.
I will post the outcome

Organ building and maintenance / Urgent Help Please
January 30, 2011, 11:48:20 PM
My organ has developed runnings all through the Great, the humidifier is working perfectly and the organ builder tells me its because of heat, we have now reduced this down to 15c from 18c.

Paul Carrs recital is next Sunday can anyone help me cure the runnings? I dont really want to bleed the soundboard.

Best wishes

Miscellaneous & Suggestions / Re: Organ Plus

Really good fun, wish I could get the bell ringers at Church syncronised like that!!!!
#300
Yes I am sure it is the same instrument, it says somewhere that it is being replaced by a digital instrument, this in fact happened a while ago. In a post they are going on about the historical merits of the instrument and how the replaced pipework could be taken out and replaced with the original pipes which were stored under the bellows. I cannot see why the organ could not have remained where it was until a more suitable buyer or home could be found for it.
Does the Historic Organ Certificate mean nothing or is this simply another meaningless piece of paper. It seems so.
