New Pipe Organs / New organ for Cambridge College
« on: July 15, 2015, 10:51:52 AM »
http://www.flentrop...._suss_coll.html  Please look at the stop list of the proposed new organ, I am a little confused as the Twelfth on the Great is at 3ft yet the Nazard on the Swell is 2.2/3 which is correct as I have always assumed they were 2.2/3.

I tried to get some movement with the topic "Worst Organs", this did generate a certain amount of response. I would like to ask David Drinkell or PCND to suggest some topics for discussion, I will try and think of something more!!

Best wishes,
Barrie

One that springs to mind is St Peter Stoke Upon Tern in Shropshire, a 3 manual Brindley and Foster, an amateur had messed around with it, the Choir was unplayable as were certain parts of the rest of the whole organ, it was a nightmare to play. I do understand that some remedial work has been carried out on it now.

Hi,

Just for a little fun would members like to tell about the worst organ they have ever played. Mine is St Philips Smethwick which is a 2 manual Bevington reduced to Swell only due to water damage, there are no pedal stops, but you can couple the Swell to Pedat.

Best wishes,
Barrie

It is indeed a tragedy, I simply cannot understand what would motivate someone to do this.

Sorry but I do not know, maybe the Vicar of the church they amalgamated with could help.

You are right it is 8ft.

I understand that the leather motors are in a bad state and have been for some time.

I was told yesterday that this church had closed and that the fate of the organ is undecided, it was originally in an Oxford College Chapel and is a 3 manual built by Rushworth and Dreaper.

How is your foot now Nicolette, I have 3 metal bolts in my left ankle from a nasty fall and know only too well the time needed for a full recovery.

Try Organ Tuning Services of Stratford on Avon. They advertise a lot in Organist's Review.

It makes a change for the organ to be heard on the BBC these days, I wish they would do more.
