free concert event...

A church in Muncy, Pennsylvania is celebrating 175 years as a congregation, and is featuring a recital on their 126 year old, single-manual tracker organ... still serving the congregation there...

The organ has 508 pipes controlled by a single manual keyboard and pedals. Each key and foot pedal has a direct contact movement that "imparts a more personal musical expression." The organ was restored in 1970 and the manual air pump that required firm pressure from the organist was replaced with an electrical one. "These tracker organs have become cherished musical instruments whose preservation is being encouraged," reported the Luminary in October, 1984.

This Australian church will be celebrating 100 years service from their pipe organ  8)

He said the church had no plans to replace the instrument.

"We are looking at starting a cultural fund to give people the opportunity to ensure the organ and it's music remains," he said.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the church's pipe organ, renowned organist Thomas Heywood, regarded as Australia's best talent on the instrument, will do a special performance on Sunday, December 5.

This, I believe... Is worth celebrating.
