Electronic Organs / Norwich Organ
November 22, 2018, 11:26:13 AM
Having recently moved into a modern house, I have had to sell my pipe organ - to a very good new home - and have acquired an old analogue Norwich Series 70 in a lovely drawstop console as a home practice organ.  I now have it all set up and working - thanks to Martin Russell from Eminent UK who sourced this for me and helped with a minor power supply repair).

I wonder whether anyone knows whether it's possible to adjust the output volume of the Great and Pedal - for the benefit of my neighbours - and, if so, how to do it.

Sadly, I fear that downsizing is looming and I shall need to part with my beautiful Aeolian/Grant Degens & Rippin house organ as it won't fit into a modern property. I bought the organ seven years ago from a world-renowned Organist via this group. It consists of 5 ranks extended to provide full choruses on Great, Swell and Pedal. No reeds. Completely unenclosed. Discus blower. Can be arranged in many different formats to suit available space. The main windchest unit is about 7' long and the pipes fit under a normal ceiling. Very gently voiced for household use. Located in Somerset, near Taunton., England. Open to sensible offers.   Help with dismantling and moving possible.

This is an organ of, essentially, five ranks:
A - Principal 4ʼ (becomes 8ʼ with bass from B)
B - Stopped Flute 8"
C - Dulciana 4ʼ (becomes * with bass from B - originally 16ʼ)
D - Tierce 1 3/5
E - Bourdon 16ʼ
Organ builders:-
Circa 1920 - Aeolian Orchestrelle Company
Circa 1948 - ? Davies of Northampton
Circa 1960 - Grant Degens (&Rippin)
Circa 1980 - Roger Taylor
1994 - Principal Pipe Organs
2010 - Principal Pipe Organs
2011 - Paul Derrett, Nigel Parkin & Philip Knighton

Organs in danger / St Paul's Church, St Albans
August 25, 2017, 06:38:12 PM
Jonathan Humbert has alerted people to the fact that the PCC of this church - which has been taken over by the evangelical wing of the CofE is applying for a Faculty to remove this organ.  It is a 2-manual and pedal organ, originally by Speechly, but said to incorporate work by G.P. England and also stops said to have been played by Attwood.  There is a facebook group campaigning for it's retention.  Please read and consider writing a letter of objection to the faculty application BEFORE 5th September.

No mention of whether they have Faculty permission to remove it.

I've just heard about this organ which may well be of interest to someone wanting a real pipe organ for home practice:

Organ Builders / Grant, Degens & Rippin (Bradbeer)
February 24, 2015, 01:26:29 PM
Does anyone know whether any of the records of this company have survived?  I'd like to see if they have any records of work done on my house organ.  I'd also like to find a genuine nameplate  to go on the console.

Another on ebay - looks to be in a poor condition and not sure if the photo shows a pile of pipes beside the console: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231388631511?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Organs on eBay or for urgent sale / House organ
March 04, 2014, 10:38:59 AM
I'm probably going to have to move house soon into a smaller modern house.  Sadly, there probably won't be room for my wonderful and cherished house organ, so I'm reluctantly advertising it for sale.

It's based on a 1920's Aeolian - 5-ranks, 2-manual & pedal.  Console if a standard size and the pipework is around 7' wide, 4 deep and 7' high.

I'm in West Somerset.  Please contact me for more information.

Organs in danger / Llandaff Cathedral Choir
November 24, 2013, 01:45:03 PM
Not an organ, but the choir and choral tradition of Llandaff cathedral are at risk as the Chapter propose to sack the Assistant Organist and Lay Clerks to save money.  This, just after the new organ has finally been completed.  I've met Sachin Gunga, the Assistant Organist and he's a thoroughly nice chap as well, of course, as being a superlative musician.  Llandaff are the only professional choir in Wales.  Please look at the attached link to the ISM petition and consider signing it.  Mush is at stake here - not least our own parish church choirs and organs.

Organs wanted / Wanted: Hill Clarion 4'
October 14, 2013, 06:03:44 PM
We have recently restored our 1898 Hill to its original specification and condition.  We have a spare slide on the Swell which originally held a 4' Clarion and are looking to replace it.  Our organ builder is trying to source a suitable rank, but it's maybe worth asking on here as well.  William Hill 4' Clarion of around 1900, without a harmonic top half.  Does anyone now of anything suitable for sale please?

Organs wanted / Zimbelstern
April 01, 2013, 09:13:18 PM
Not a whole organ: I'm toying with the idea of putting a Zimberstern in the house organ.  Does anyone know of one for sale cheap? (Real, not digital please).

Osmond's built a lot of similar organs.  They are generally very useful and well built.
