Title: Kill Organs to Revitalise the Church. Scapegoat for impoverished intellect?
Post by: KB7DQH on October 28, 2012, 02:27:45 AM
The Boston Globe published an "opinion" piece titled "To Revitalize the Catholic Church, Kill all the Organs"...  :o :( >:(  http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2012/10/24/revitalize-catholic-church-let-kill-all-organs/9FpzZPSQzhfd4uUeCJNDbK/story.html (http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2012/10/24/revitalize-catholic-church-let-kill-all-organs/9FpzZPSQzhfd4uUeCJNDbK/story.html)  for which there have been many, many comments and responses from nearly everyone who was aware of this "screed" over the past couple days throughout the "blogosphere"...  As I write this I am made aware of the 84 "guests" viewing this forum, no doubt searching for "Halloween Organ Concerts" or maybe some "reaction" posted here--
So far, I have spotted thesehttp://view-from-the-loft.blogspot.com/2012/10/killing-us-softly.html?spref=fb (http://view-from-the-loft.blogspot.com/2012/10/killing-us-softly.html?spref=fb)http://felicemifa.wordpress.com/2012/10/25/four-alternatives-to-killing-your-pipe-organ/ (http://felicemifa.wordpress.com/2012/10/25/four-alternatives-to-killing-your-pipe-organ/) and as they say, the "story is developing"...

They can kill their organs if they must - but in Ischia in Italy where I was a few weeks ago, their organs have been largely killed and their congregations still contain no more young people than anywhere else.

Quite the reverse, where there is a healthy enthusiasm in the pleasure of an organ, there is a good congregation.

The reason why often I write what some might consider to be on annoyingly esoteric subjects is that the value of the Church will not be appreciated until the priests of churches put away their sectarian differences, clinging on to thin bare threads of fairy story beliefs based on unintelligent literal uninterpreted texts upon which turn intelligent people away and instead start to demonstrate how God is at the fundamental level of the universe, of existence and of the prime moving force in getting people to work together in society. That includes now getting people even from Islam in Pakistan to work with atheists and Christians alike in the Pentagon, Washington and others all over the world.

It is by demonstrating the superiority of Christian philosophy that those within Iran disillusioned with the shallow mantra of the manner of teaching the Koran will be won over to change the country, and even more, rather than by war.

Personally I love the Gospel of Thomas from Nag Hammadi:
http://gnosis.org/naghamm/gosthom.html
Quote114. Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life."

Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven."

It is Christianity that has brought freedoms throughout the 19th century which we now take for granted. Emancipation of women has now largely been won. The quotation above derives from a time and a place still where women are largely kept at home, and in India formerly by Maharajahs in the Zenana. But through access to education women are as men. The sin, however, is still the number of women who are happier within the garden of eden of their own pinkdom, brought up as pink princesses, expecting to be looked after by men and wanting to be kept as pets within domesticdom whilst their husbands go hunting within the corporate kingdom and have expectations of driving Rolls Royces and wearing diamond encrusted watches.

The Catholic Church will be revitalised when it allows priests to be of the married variety, and even to allow women to serve as men. The Gospel of Mary Magdalene
http://gnosis.org/library/marygosp.htm
is a Gospel for this time when women are treated as described in the Gospel of Thomas:
Quote1) But they were grieved. They wept greatly, saying, How shall we go to the Gentiles and preach the gospel of the Kingdom of the Son of Man? If they did not spare Him, how will they spare us?

2) Then Mary stood up, greeted them all, and said to her brethren, Do not weep and do not grieve nor be irresolute, for His grace will be entirely with you and will protect you.

3) But rather, let us praise His greatness, for He has prepared us and made us into Men.

4) When Mary said this, she turned their hearts to the Good, and they began to discuss the words of the Savior.

This document accords with the Gospel of Thomas: Peter did not agree . . .

Quote3) Peter answered and spoke concerning these same things.

4) He questioned them about the Savior: Did He really speak privately with a woman and not openly to us? Are we to turn about and all listen to her? Did He prefer her to us?

There is no room for such politics in the Church. Fundamental to belief and faith and God is the nature of matter and the Universe. Mary again:
QuoteWill matter then be destroyed or not?

22) The Savior said, All nature, all formations, all creatures exist in and with one another, and they will be resolved again into their own roots.

23) For the nature of matter is resolved into the roots of its own nature alone.

This is profound, and goes to the heart of the subject, to the behaviour of matter, matter within us, and of the evolution of the species even. Christianity as recorded in wider texts is so very much more profound than merely those chosen by Iranaeus to be canonical.

Best wishes

This is the thread which has been extracted from
http://www.organmatters.com/index.php/topic,1561.msg7391.html#msg7391
as it raises significant issues for the survival of the organ . . . and the buildings within which organs are commonly found.

Best wishes
