Electronic Organs / Klipsch organ speaker ! and Tour
November 28, 2012, 08:51:27 AM
Hi,
this was posted to the Hammond Organ list but seems to be an interesting Tour.

check out the video at about 7:20 for an organ related speaker.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=jjKcD2MaxV8&NR=1

but I wonder what it sounds like ? probably not like a Leslie cabinet ( which is a great sound but not what everyone wants ! )

Hi,
just to let you know that I received the brochure from the Fairfields Halls in Croydon a day or two ago.
it seems that D'Arcy Trinkwon is playing there on Sunday January the Thirteenth 2013 playing a selection of Music, some with a Christmas Theme.
I hope that I can get along.

Hi,
well I haven't heard the modern Makin Organs in a similar setting to that which I have heard Hauptwerk in so I can't compare the two directly.
I feel that any Electronic instrument relies on the Speakers and Amplifiers that are used, and that the more channels of amplification used, the more likely it is to get realistic sounds.
one thing to consider when deciding is what warranty is offered with each instrument ?
Any instrument ( whether Pipe or Electronic ) will as far as I know have to be voiced to suit the building it is in.

To AnOrganCornucopia:

As you well know, Hauptwerk blows Makin out of the water.

Hi,
having two five octave manuals and a nearly full pedal board is a definite advantage.
it would help to know approximately which part of the country the Organ is located in, as transporting instruments isn't always the most straightforward thing to do.
the Organ generator ic might be an SGS M108,
there is a data sheet available at
<http://www.milton.arachsys.com/nj71/pdf/m108.pdf>
the ic was used in a couple of home organs including I think the Maplin Matinee Organ.

Organs wanted / Re: Wanted small and cheap
September 10, 2012, 11:19:46 AM
Hi, I would suggest ( I know that not everyone would agree ) that you looked out for a cheap home keyboard with a 5 octave manual, that had a couple of Organ sounds available.
this would at least enable some hymns to be played, and might well sound better that the Home organ with offset manuals. Some of the top of the range Home Organs actually would probably sound ok, but I know that the one you have probably isn't a top of the range model.
or course if you could find a full sized Organ that would be a much better solution.

Hi,
this has reminded me that I need to listen to the concert while it is available on the radio player.

Hi,
you wrote
"On a real instrument a note will start at any point within the vibrato variation and all notes will be affected by the same amount at the same time."
I think it may actually be more complex than that.
"I have a straight 1937 Hammond E which has the original double tonewheels to produce its chorus effect which might also be useful for sampling."
I personally think it would be extremely useful for sampling, as there are not many Hammonds with the extra set of tone wheels, that produce tones at a higher and lower pitch to the original tone wheels, in the UK.

Hi,
in case you didn't know I think  Hammond made a small number of Organs that have more harmonics that the standard X 66 and X77.
the model was the G100 and had stop tabs rather than draw bars. it wasn't a commercial success it seems.
I'm all for anyone sampling the older instruments, whether electronic or Pipe, even though I realise the amount of work involved.
I think you make good passing reference to the Leslie cabinets. These in addition with the vibrato / chorus circuitry on the organs are part of the sound of the whole Organ and aren't necessarily easy to simulate in a virtual organ.
being able to recreate the sound using recreated filters is a lot of work again, and you would have to be careful  that the tone generators you use would have to produce a waveform that was close to that produced by the original tone generators. sometimes it seems to be the small imperfections that give each instrument its own character. there is also the keying arrangement that can affect the sound as well.
But you probably know these things already !

Hi,
I'm only guessing here but I wonder if  the settings could have got corrupted, so you would need to try reprogramming the pistons. ( this assumed that the pistons are programmable and the settings may be held in battery backed ram or maybe flash rom ? )
if they are not programmable maybe there could be a loose cable to them ?
I think you mentioned you have the service info, that should make it easier to track things down.
