that is most impressive ! There can't be may ways to know what was being played in the 18th Century, but this seems to be one of them !

Announced on the Mander organs forum yesterday, John Mander, who has headed the firm for 35 years, is to retire.  New directors have been appointed, and the firm will shortly become in effect employee-owned.

I'm sure we all wish John a long & happy retirement.

Organ Builders / Henry Willis IV RIP
« Last post by revtonynewnham on June 24, 2018, 09:06:58 AM »
From Facebook this morning:-

"It is with tremendous sadness that Henry Willis & Sons Ltd. has reported the death of Henry Willis 4 b. 19th Jan 1927 - d. 23rd June 2018
Mr. Willis was the last member of the Willis dynasty to be materially involved in the family firm from which he stood down as Managing Director on his birthday in 1997, later appointing David Wyld to the position: he continued as the Majority Shareholder until the 28th November 1998.
An obituary has been written by Bruce Buchanan and will appear in The Times tomorrow."
The barrel organ of c1790 from the Colt Collection has now been acquired for public access and study -

With a repertoire of 60 items spread across 16 rolls drawn from opera, popular and sacred music as well as two of Handel's concertos the instrument is a unique insight into 18th century performance style.

Best wishes

Thanks for your proposals!
The organ of Kilbarchan West Church is a very fine instrument. Unfortunately they have a polish organ-builder who wants to visit the instrument for a polish church. I know the polish organ companies and there is nothing good I could say about it, this would be the last job for this organ. An expert-report of H&H estimates the coast of restoring of 230.000, not to much for us.
The Dartford Organ is a little bit to small, we need 16' Diapason on Great and 35-50 stops.
Is there any other idea?

Thank you and best regards!

Dartford is a fine organ, vintage Arthur Harrison, completed tastefully by Kingsgate Davidson.
Not long to go and still no bids.  We need to be watchful if it isn't sold - might they ditch it and say it was sold on ebay?
