Hi,
if you mean the Organ Concertos of Handel played by E Power Biggs ,
Philips recordings 835 531ay
then yes the Booklet [ which I have ] does describe how the Organ had to be retuned.
it also described how electricity had to be supplied to the Church !

Hi,
A good question to which I don't have a good answer.
I guess it all depends on 1. what the new Organs sound like
2. it is easy to voice the physical modelling sounds ?
3 are a range of custom sounds available ?
I guess it is possible that the Viscount physical modelling instruments may not use a similar technology to the Bradford/ Musicom system. unless Viscount let on we may not know.

regards Peter B

P.S I think the Patents for the Bradford system can be found at
<http://www.google.com/patents?id=DfUqAAAAEBAJ&zoom=4&pg=PA1#v=onepage&q&f=false>
Patent number: 4202234
Filing date: Apr 27, 1977
Issue date: May 13, 1980

Electronic Organs / Re: vintage Leslie speakers ...
March 06, 2011, 06:55:54 PM
Hi,
well on ebay uk there are several 145 valve Leslies
one has got up to        £ 700-00
another has got up to £ 296-00
as with anything that isn't made anymore if there is a limited supply then the price will go up .....
there are also some transistor Leslies but I feel that £ 895 for a Leslie 760 is rather a lot.

Hi,
in case anyone want to listen to it there was a program the Organists entertains on bbc radio 2 on last Thursday evening. it was a longer program that usual as they had some additional material from the 40th aniversary program.

<http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00yslr1/Nigel_Ogden_The_Organist_Entertains_03_03_2011/>

you should be able to listen to it for seven days after it was first broadcast.

Hi,
there are some interesting comments here about mp3 files, I will be investigating when I get a chance and will report back.....
mp3 doesn't  use lossless  data compression so it will certainly make some difference.
But exactly what differences are another matter !
I can't make the Concert on Sunday unfortunately but I hope it is a success.

P.S  sorry to know about the tinnitus.

However, I can assure anyone thinking of coming on Sunday that the Tuba is now back in full fettle and working once again the in the spirit of H&H  . . . I have serious tinnitus in one of my ears as a result of voicing it to prove it . . . !

Best wishes

Hi,
well the unit I worked on was a few years old so may have been a different tweeter ?  I was quoted over £ 100-00 for a replacement drive unit from a Mackie agent !

Unfortunately these days Mackie SRM speakers have very low cost far eastern drive units,
If you ever take one apart you will know what I mean

Electronic Organs / two way speakers such as the Mackie
February 27, 2011, 03:49:03 PM
Hi,
I recently was asked to repair a Mackie SRm350 powered monitor.  After fitting a replacement tweeter I tried the unit out ....
and yes when using a sine wave tone at medium volumes you could hear that as the tone was swept from about 500 hz to 3khz the tone did come from both the tweeter and the main bass speaker. on this model of Mackie there are two power amps, one for the bass speaker and then other for the tweeter.  the cross over is an electronic design.
I think that as has been mentioned there may be phase problems as the sound comes from more than one source ? it also makes sense that you might only notice this on some types of music / speech .
regards Peter B

P.S has anyone tried using a coaxial speaker [ that is one that has a bass unit with a tweeter built into the same chassis ? ]
I know this is a different application but one of these units was recommended to me to replace an old speaker in one of the Leslie speaker cabinets.

Hi,
I'm not sure if St George's Hall Liverpool is a town hall ?
but there was the program on Tv Flog it ! on BBC 2 today at 3-45 pm.
this shows the Organ being played and also a short tour round Henry Willis and Sons, showing how the pipes are made .......
you should be able to see it on BBC iplayer if you are in the uk.
pleased to see one daytime TV program mentioning the Pipe Organ !

Hi,
I think I have only heard the Allen cabinets live once, back in the early 1990's but I did think that they sounded better than a Leslie speaker for trying to simulate a couple of effects you get with the many ranks of pipes on a Pipe organ.
that isn't to say that I don't like the sound of a Leslie cabinet but I felt the Allen Gyrophonic cabinet does have a nice character of its own.
of course being in a large room can help with both the sound of a Pipe Organ and Electronic Organ.
I think that Compton also did something similar with a speaker called I think the rotophon ?
but I've never heard one live.

Good but small photograph looking into the back of the "gyrophonic" speaker cabinet... What some folks will do to get around patents :o ;D

Hi,
I just wondered if there was a standard set of chords that would be used to check the Temperament ?
I ask as I think there is a piece of music used to check the Temperament on Harpsichords in the book by Jean Dennis
[  Treatise on Harpsichord Tuning By Jean Denis ]
this seems now to be available to view online ?
http://ebooks.cambridge.org/chapter.jsf?bid=CBO9780511627286&cid=CBO9780511627286A026&p=22
pleased that you are giving people the chance to hear Pipe Organs that they might not be able to otherwise hear.

Hi,
I just saw this Organ on ebay and thought I would mention it.
Item number: 130487154880

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Walker-2-manual-3-stop-practice-organ-/130487154880?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Keyboard_RL&hash=item1e61a3f8c0

looking at the specification it does seem possibly a bit limited as the pedals are always coupled to the upper manual. of course I'm the first to admit I have a lot to learn about Pipe organs ......

Hi,
I couldn't put what you have said better......
I wonder if this is down to a change in culture, generally people seem to be much more critical on the internet and maybe say things they would not say to someone in person ?
[ or maybe they would ! ].

I wish more people would learn that constructive criticism helps, destructive criticism doesn't.
