This splendid little organ was built for the church in 1887 by Harrison & Harrison and is an almost completely unaltered example of this firm's work, from their early Durham period.
It was overhauled by the local firm of H.E.Prested in the 1970's, when a modern pedal board and swell pedal were provided and the present electric blower was installed.
It is of historic importance, quite apart from its musical value, and is well built. It would be a prime candidate for grant aid towards restoration.
However, the condition of the church building fabric gives cause for concern. The walls need stabilizing and work is to begin soon.
The organ needs to be removed from the church quite soon to avoid damage,
The organ has an electric blower but the power isn’t available at present. It can, however, be hand pumped.
