QuoteBonn, University Church

The historic university building got a new attraction: On May 6, 2012, the new organ of the Lutheran Palace Church in the southeast tower of the baroque palace has been inaugurated.

With its 1,600 pipes and speaking 27 stops on two manuals and pedal and it is the first complete new organ in the center of Bonn since the 1960s. A special feature is the carillon, which alludes to a carillon at the north-east tower of the castle of electoral times.

The new organ was initiated and financed largely by a Swiss foundation that wishes to remain anonymous. The university and private sponsors expanded the financial scope significantly.

The design was developed in collaboration with the Bonn based architect Ralph Schweitzer.

The objective is to reach human immortality—that is, to create things which are necessary to mankind, necessary to the purpose of the existence of mankind, and which have become the fruit that drives the creation of a higher state of mankind than ever existed before."

Another new instrument "after Casparini" ???  Maybe a "glut" of "North-German" style "new" instruments, so customers are looking for something unique, but still capable of "rendering Bach" :-\

A "noteworthy" observation is the involvement in the case design of an architect :o  Which in this case results in something which visually blends with the existing structure, but not so much as to disguise its purpose... The polished facade pipes  and absence of "carved decorative elements" which are a feature of the rest of the building being the "visual exception" on the case panels adjacent to the console.
The woodwork of the pedal towers match the building column decoration nearly perfectly, which makes a visual statement "I belong here" however this contrasts with the elegant simplicity of the case paneling adjacent to the console saying to the eye "I am NEW"...  At least that is how I perceive it from the photographs...
