Hi!

Statistics report that the whole forum is being printed by a guest visiting the forum in Japan. Is the Organ having an influence in Japan?

It would be great to welcome guests from Japan to join the forum and contribute to discussions, asking questions, and we will be as helpful and informative as we can be . . .

Hi!

When visiting the forum from time to time I'm often intrigued at the variety of Google Ads. I suspect that they are not always served on a function of page content but also on the general interests of people looking at pages. Certainly if one has a Gmail account, the ads seem to appear from time to time irrevant to the content of the email and possibly as an assumed function of correlation with the interests of the other person with whom one is corresponding.

If this theory has any foundation then perhaps ads for Will Writers might tell us about the age of people with interests in pipe organs, but a set of ads this evening includes
Property Lawyers
Commercial Law firm
Electronics courses
A hotel in the Holy Land
Drupal development, whatever that is
A password manager
Business cards
Kidney hospitals
Top criminal lawyers
Prosecutions - trading standards investigations
and
Injury Lawyers online

Finally, as I write, there's JoomlaWatch recommending watching and knowing one's visitors. Who needs that if Google Ads are giving us clues. If they are, the mind boggles as to the sort of people who are generally interested in pipe organs!

Do we have a lot of lawyers and kidney specialists amongst us, or a lot needing such services? The mind boggles!  :)

Hi!

I was contacted this morning by a researcher seeking people enthusiastic about the Pipe Organ with the intention of lifting the instrument out of the perception of that boring old thing in the corner  . . . On the spur of the moment I directed him towards various YouTube videos below as well as to Paul Carr. I also feel that Nigel Allcoat would be great and it would be brilliant if he might possibly be encouraged to join this forum . . . Sean Tucker should be another candidate . . .

Please can people add to this? It's probably the one thread on this site that can make the difference in encouraging a wider public perception of why the Organ really is the King of Instruments . . .

I am directing the enquirer to this post, so this really is the place to give details of any instrument or person you feel to be an important landmark . . .

QuoteMatthew Copley talking about reed pipes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6pfY4ZYw1k

These are really examples of the King of Instruments . . . and hopefully might enable people to understand that the Organ is as
captivating as former generations found Steam trains such as the Royal Scotsman and Mallard, Aeroplanes such as the 747 and Concorde etc etc . But many organs are mere Cessnas . . . even they being enjoyable in a different realm.

Were you to be able to film in France then the Academie d'Orgue at St Maximin is between 19 and 29 August.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GyFn7Wmps8 is Jeremy Filsell, organist of the National Cathedral in Washington DC encouraged to play in the style I heard near St Maximin which I introduced to Ben Scott http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAy81I-0O6c through my video at L'Orgue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OARFBig_u9M

Paul Carr is an organist who I believe to be very enthusiastic and Mark Blatchly is often known to play lighter repertoire on the church organ, for instance Eric Coates' London Suite.

Perhaps anyone commissioning a new organ and their builders - such as Cranleigh School . . . or one of the Oxford Colleges with a new organ . . .

Hi!

In searching for concerts at L'Escarene near Nice the site http://plein-jeu.over-blog.org/ appeared and is very comprehensive, although could be difficult to find what one might be searching for.

Hi!

The subject of pipe organ disassembly has come up in the site statistics and this is clearly a useful topic for us to cover here as an encouragement, hopefully, for people to take on organ moving and preservation projects.

There are certain tips that are usefully passed on and it would be great if members could contribute appropriately to this thread . . .

Particular thanks are due to our Moderation Team for assisting greatly in keeping their eyes open for any random posts which might be the cause of someone having cause to being upset. In signing up to the Forum, in common with the majority of forums, writers are made aware that they are solely responsible for what they write, but of course the Moderation Team try to guide anyone they can perceive to be overstepping bounds and in particular exceeding the realm of "fair comment".

Should anyone feel aggrieved by anything that appears on the site, please do join as a member and make yourselves known to the Moderators or Forum Admin. This forum and site is about expressing ENTHUSIASM for the King of Instruments and how the Organ as an instrument is best preserved, repaired, presented and promoted and is not about upsetting anyone or spreading information that is in anyway false or beyond the bounds of civilised discussion.

It's great to see in the stats that All Saints Carshalton is receiving wider attention - it's a great instrument.

Hi!

The Calendar is now enabled for addition of concerts so that members can add details. Unfortunately it's only possible to add it to the Organ Recitals section but hope it will be useful nevertheless.

Hi!

Forum moderators and admin have decided to prevent viewers using the Blackberry mobile network from contributing to the forum.

This is on account of our belief, which may be unfounded, that users of mobile devices on the move may not be applying their full intellect to postings and consideration of posts may be hurried by issues irrelevant to the subject of which they are writing.

Having also experience of people who suffer an internet addiction in preference to paying attention to real life, particularly Facebook, access to which can be deleterously intrusive in the real world with the immediate access provided by mobile phones, we are aware that internet forums can contribute equally negatively.

We do hope that anyone being unable to post to this forum from a mobile device will be able to make a valid contribution when they return home to access the site from a static network from their home computer.

Of course we cannot be responsible for, nor guarantee, protecting people from themselves, but whilst the internet can be so very helpful especially in the promotion of causes, such as here the Organ, it can also be an addiction which can be as equally destructive to people's lives as any. We trust that our efforts and understanding in this matter will be appreciated.

My friend Lilita Ozola, who studied at St Petersburg Conservatoire and Riga Academy of Music but who now lives and works in west Somerset, is going back to Riga next week to give a recital on this organ.  She played it regularly when she was teaching at Riga Academy.  She says it's a magnificent instrument  but it needs at least one assistant to change registrations for a concert.  Also, the pedalboard is short compass which means much rearrangement of the music.  Lilita's programme includes the Durufle Suite for Organ and Mulet's Carillon-Sortie as well as music by the Latvian composer Romaulds Jermaks who celebrates his 80th birthday this year.

If you can't get to Riga, Lilita is playing a lunchtime recital in Truro Cathedral next Friday, 17th June.

Hi!

At the top of your browser tab you might see the new browser icon for the site . . .

The image of the Snetzler at Hastings http://www.matthew-copley.co.uk/portfolio12.htm seemed to be capable of reduction to 16x16 pixels and still be recognisable as an organ! How many other instruments can be reduced to that size and still be visually recognisable?

In the concerts section, D'Arcy Trinkwon has announced a recital on this instrument and whilst D'Arcy can manage the largest of monster organs he is also master of small ones too . . . and the Snetzler should come to life most beautifully. It should be worth the trip to Hastings.

Hi!

I hope that people don't mind the Google advertisements on the site. Having put a block on the bottom it became apparent that more interesting ads appeared on subsequent blocks as for sheet music etc. and it's hoped that these are useful to members and guests . . . and going through to advertisers' sites generates revenue which contributes to the maintenance of the internet server . . . So please do patronise advertisers' websites!

It's interesting that electronic manufacturers print out so many circuit boards that they need to advertise to get their stock shifted . . . and that in comparison pipe organ builders are in much greater demand as in reality they don't need to advertise.

Or is it that profits from electronic organs are so huge that manufacturers can simply afford to throw money at advertising?

Of course we'll be happy to advertise any pipe-organ builder with a 120 pixel wide advert free of charge although donations are appreciated.

Hi!

I have set another question for new users joining the forum to answer:
QuoteWhich French organist wrote the Toccata as the 5th Movement of his 5th Symphony which is often heard at weddings?

Is that adequately self explanatory?

Hi!

It's great to be able an increasing number of organ enthusiasts into the forum and we hope that you'll make postings of any organ news of which you're aware . . . There are concerts going on in all sorts of places, for instance, and it would be great to hear about them and the instruments that they're being played on . . . etc.

However, among new members we've seen a pattern of new members joining the forum merely as another branch of SEO operations to obtain back links to Remove Fat Fast Pills and the like websites. That is not the function of this or any other forum and we have removed a number of such user accounts today. If yours happens to have been deleted by accident, please rejoin.

It's great if new members might introduce themselves here and tell us about your organ interests . . . and of course this will assist in our recognition of your genuine interest in due course when we have to take editorial decisions based on mere appearances. . .

Hi!

We are moving this site to a new server based in the UK over the next couple of days. We aim to avoid losing any posts posted during the changeover but it's always a possibility and we'll do the best we can.

The server will take over from two servers currently in America holding around 40 or so sites and the new server has capacity for around 50 more. If anyone would like site hosting, we can offer space at good value, supporting the cost of running this forum at the same time.

Hi!

I have just had a message:
Quote

I have from time to time observed guests "registering for an account on the forum" but seldom see these appear as new members... I am afraid something in the registration process is either scaring them off or these are some form of automated device at work... Just don't know.

I hope it isn't the former... The registration process is hardly anything different from anything else I have experienced anywhere else on the Web... right down to the "terms of service agreement"...

But there may be a "bug" crawling about that needs a good stomping on
