Hello all! I am new to this forum. My first post will be a request.
Knowing that there are many redundant organs around I wonder how I can get to find where there might be some redundant pipework. I am looking for some ranks to replace that which was removed some years ago, finish what never was and perhaps enhance an organ!
So what I would really like is a GOOD big fruity Vox Humana - maybe a Norman & Beard or a Father Willis, a good wooden stopped diapason or something like it to replace a wooden Hohl Flute and if anyone knows where there might be some redundant 32s!! I have a magnificent set of stopped pipes of very large scale extending downwards form an open wood 16 to FFF then it's all the same note to the bottom. It would be wonderful to complete this rank.
While I'm on it...32' reeds: are 1/2 length really any good?

Two suggestions - there are at least two organ builders with soft hearts for organs - and I think a number more too . . . and they will rescue what they can for stock:

There's a clarinet there. Bearing in mind the progressive similarity of clarinet, corno di bassetto, cromorne and vox, I wonder if you might be able to adapt a clarinet? As David says, talk to any organ builder - they will either have stocks (and often complete organs), or know where they can be found. Also, take a look at the small ads in Organists' Review - there's a regular advert there offering organ pipes and parts. The third option is the Redundant Organ Rehousing company - see http://www.rorcl.co.uk/ - alongside their aim to rescue complete organs, they do have some pipework available.
