Post by: organdesign on October 28, 2013, 11:15:34 PM
We have just started the restoration of a very rare Willis floating barker lever machine.
Please check back to our website [www.organdesign.co.uk] for further information.

Hi!

It would be great to hear more about the complexities of this and its adjustment. Twitter length posts https://twitter.com/OrganDesign/statuses/394963700979105792 (https://twitter.com/OrganDesign/statuses/394963700979105792) aren't wholly expressive! It's great to see http://www.organdesign.co.uk/ (http://www.organdesign.co.uk/) which looks good. Descriptions of some of the things you come across, not just what you're doing but also the processes you're undertaking http://www.organdesign.co.uk/ (http://www.organdesign.co.uk/).

Best wishes

But what is a 'floating Barker lever'? Presumably, it is neither a Barker lever nor a Floating lever; certainly it is rare.

Hi

The Willis floating lever mechanism is, in effect, a pneumatic servo system.  Not sure if this is what is meant here though.

There is no such thing as either a Willis Barker Lever, a floating Barker lever or a Willis Floating Barker Lever.

If this is a Willis mechanism, it will either be a Willis Lever or a Willis Floating Lever.  Easily discernible from the Patent number.

If you haven't done one before and don't have the research, good luck!

Dear David

Thanks for your clarification. Edward is a young organ builder (that is by grey haired standards) who I first met some years ago as a student volunteering on the rescue, removal and rebuild of a rather worthy 2 manual instrument. Perhaps he might appreciated your expertise and encouragement.

Best wishes
