Hi

I think that most concert organists have some sort of web presence.  I don't know how many are blogs.  This one is a little confusing to those this side of the pond, as "The Organist Entertains" is a weekly (mainly) Theatre Organ programme on BBC Radio 2!

Good idea tough.  Maybe once I've got the church web site, etc up and running I might consider a blog - but don't hold your breath - I don't have enough thime as it is!

Hi!

That's one of the purposes that this forum can serve. If organists and organ builders want to publicise, this is the place where they can . . .

Best wishes

I "found" another one, a rather inspiring project...

Hi!

Thanks for posting this. A great guy and a super inspiration especially perhaps for those looking for catalysts for New Year resolutions.

Happy Christmas!

Well - that's most Christians and Muslims annoyed.  The modern commercialisation of Christmas IS rubbish - but don't thhrow the baby out with the bath water.

Likewise! Happy Christmas! Hope it hasn't left your foot too stamped upon.

Hammerwood had a great service today conducted by our Priestess's husband who comes from Pakistan. He converted from Islam at the age of 17 as a result of watching a Billy Graham video and he's great fun.

He urged people not to be religious - he said that there was much too much religion in the world - and that one should come to church not as a matter of duty but as a matter of worship and the spirit coming from the heart. Jesus working within the heart is what christianity is all about (- and that's nothing to do with the outward symbols which are worshipped as the religion.)

Best wishes - (and Peter - thanks SO MUCH for the CD you very kindly put in the post recently - looking forward to hearing it)

I'm just sick fed up of the whole thing, the commercialisation, the huge stress and general effort involved in making anything of it, the family rows... I'd really rather forget it even existed.

Sorry to hear that - peace, goodwill to all men (that means non-Christians too), and all that . . . If things are bad, then they point perhaps to how things can be improved.

Perhaps you should start playing . . .

Best wishes

Thanks to KB7DQH for mentioning my blog http://sixtybysixty.tumblr.com/ on December 24, 2010.  At that time I had played 12 pipe organs, I'm now at 23 and will play number 24 on Friday.  I've played 17 in Battle Creek, Michigan and I'm ready to branch out.  I'm looking to do a little traveling in the midwest this summer and wonder if anyone could suggest somewhere cool to play.  Thanks!  Ellen at Sixty by Sixty

Looks like I will have to revisit the blog :-[ ;)   Somewhere on this forum I have posted some news articles about restored and new organs in that region...

Stuff like...http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/statewide/archive/2011/06/four-years-after-deluge-historic-rushford-pipe-organ-restored.shtml?refid=0

QuoteHeavy rain and flash floods destroyed more than half of the 700 homes and businesses in the southeastern Minnesota community of Rushford in 2007.

For weeks after the deluge, most of the town's businesses remained closed and nearly all the damaged homes empty. The rain washed away homes, destroyed infrastructure and killed seven people.

Among the losses: the historic pipe organ inside Rushford's stone-built Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

But slowly, the town rebuilt.

Nearly four years later, residents of Rushford and congregants of this small church will gather this weekend for a dedication ceremony in honor of the restored pipe organ.

This is a big deal for this small community. The rebuilt organ has been expanded from nine ranks to ten ranks with a solid state switching system. The console has been rebuilt and updated as well as the blower. And the wind chest and pipes--not damaged in the flood--are the originals.

Brian Williams, director of music and the arts at Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester, will direct the Motet Choir from Calvary at the dedication. Mayo Clinic Carilloneur Jeffrey Daehn will also be on hand to give instrument demonstrations.

The dedication will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 217 West Jessie Street in Rushford. A reception will follow. The public is welcome to join in the celebration in honor of the restored pipe organ.

For more information, email Ben Scott at sbscott@kmtel.com.

(I say "somewhere" as I am RAPIDLY sneaking up on 600 posts to this forum in over a years' membership ;)

Moreover, if you have found something extraordinary then by all means report back ;D
