Hi

This is the reason why we encourage contributors to add a brief summary of what web sites are about and not just leave a link!

Every Blessing

QuoteChrist Church Cathedral's music director, Michael Gormley, has invited three award-winning organists to travel here and present concerts as part of the fourth annual Summer Organ Series.

They have been enticed by the cathedral's magnificent Hellmuth Wolff pipe organ, he explained, and are looking forward to "exploring its multitude of unique tonal possibilities." Concerts will be at 7: 30 p.m. on consecutive Fridays starting July 1 with Toronto organist Ian Sadler.

In addition to the music of Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Vierne, Elgar and Howells, Sadler will perform Canadian selections by Gerald Bales, William France and Denis Bédard.

Brett Maguire of Worcester, Massachusetts, will perform a wide-ranging program of music by Sweelinck, Frescobaldi, Buxtehude, Rogg, Alain, Vierne, and Franz Liszt on July 8. Among his many recent awards are the first prize in the 2005 André Marchal International organ competition in Biarritz, France, and the 2001 American Guild of Organists/Quimby Regional Competition for Young Organists.

Colin Daniel Lynch concludes the series July 15. He is organist and assistant director of music at Trinity Church, Boston, and will perform the music of Sweelinck, Bach and Louis Vierne. Tickets $15 each, or the series for $30, at the cathedral office, Ivy's and Munro's Books, Cadboro Bay Book Company or the door. -
