Organ building and maintenance / Re: "Synthetic Solo Organ"
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:49:27 AM »
I think that with the Hammonds, some of the Harmonics are not quite the correct frequencies, so this makes the organ sound different in different keys. ( and of course the Hammonds are not quite tuned to equal Temperament ! ).
I just wondered what temperament the Pipe Organ you mention at East Grinstead is tuned to ?

Reed organs and harmoniums / box of reeds for sale on ebay
« on: June 07, 2010, 07:10:17 PM »
just wondered if anyone would be interested in a box of Brass Reeds being sold on ebay.

It doesn't hurt that specific construction information exists in book form 8)    I will have to dig around and find out if there are English language translations available.

I would be interested to know this as well, as I didn't pay attention to the Lessons in French when I was at school !   I have both the Audsley Books and the diagrams are very good.
But are they worth the money ?

above  is a good point....
after all if there are not enough people going to concerts then there won't be many concerts being put on. But how do you get people who would not normally go to concerts to be interested in them ? I think youtube does get to a wide audience.
I wonder has anyone done a video basic introduction to the Pipe organ with ( simple ) examples of the different sounds available ( for example the difference between flutes and reeds ) and what all the stops and couplers do ?

regards Peter B

you may know this already but,
just to let you know that you can download a copy of the BHS magazine from their web site.

P.S for those who don't know BHS = British Harpsichord Society

Electronic Organs / Re: sample formats
« on: May 12, 2010, 12:20:00 PM »
well as far as I know the format for Hauptwerk has changed between the versions.
but the later versions can read the earlier files. the later versions are as far as I know encrypted, but I think that version 1 files are  wav files ( one for each pipe ! ).
there are additional files / graphic images  needed to define the console etc.
I think that starting with a small / chamber organ to sample is a good idea as it might work out to be a lot of work.

Harpsichords / Re: I want one
« on: April 23, 2010, 09:57:42 PM »
well I checked ebay today and the only one I found was a Digital one !
which is fine unless you get a fault with the electronics and find you can't get spares ......
of course acoustic instruments don't have the same problem with spares.
( different ones maybe I guess ! )
