Reed organs and harmoniums / Re: Christmas Greetings
Last post by David_M - December 26, 2020, 01:44:31 AM
Thank you and the same to you.

It's strange not having to turn out for Midnight Mass however a different (distanced?) Christmas will be an interesting new experience.

Maybe I'll find out what Christmas is like if you're not a church organist!

Seasons wishes to all and stay safe.

It looked and sounded electronic to me. Played rather too loudly I thought.

Hi

I've no idea - I didn't watch the programme on principle.  There's no room for competitiveness in Christianity.

Hi,
I happened to see this on TV, and just wondered if the Organ used to accompany the Choristers was Electronic or Pipe ? the console seems to be a modern design with stops above the keyboards as well as to either side.
( yes I know I should be able to tell if it is Pipe Or Electronic, but my ears are out of practice ! )

Questions of Temperament / Re: The Modified Meantone of S...

Thanks for pointing this out.

The English version of the page is
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_of_St._Ludgeri_in_Norden

The 5:4 perfect third is in cents 386 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_intonation) so this temperament has three major thirds very near pure at 389 cents and altogether 6 significantly better than Equal Temperament.

Best wishes

By chance I happened on details of the temperament used at St Maximin - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgel_der_Ludgerikirche_(Norden)

It's certainly very effective

Pipe organ gravestones and plaques / Re: Mander and the forum

On Facebook there was a photograph and caption by John Mander with said stopknobs and explanation, unless I'm much mistaken.

It's really good to see that the Mander heritage continues now in Kent.

Best wishes
